If you live in the Dallas area, you know that it seems like we’ve had rain for weeks with no end in sight. The forecast last week was like a roller coaster, predicting rain, then sun, then rain again. I really didn’t know what to expect to see when I opened my eyes Friday morning. It was lightly raining and the forecast said we might have some clear windows of time that afternoon. I’m always prepared for shooting indoors and outdoors with a cute umbrella, but the wedding venue Judith and Edgar chose has such a beautiful property that I was desperately hoping that their outdoor wedding would still be on. It rained on my drive down to Waxahachie but when I arrived at Hidden Waters, the grounds were dry, the property was overflowing with roses perfectly in bloom and the forecast was now predicting no rain until after sunset. Perfection.
Friday was my first visit to Hidden Waters and I was truly blown away. When you pull into the property you can see peeks of the Tuscan style building between the lush landscaping. After parking, you walk through a garden-like path into a courtyard that’s set up for outdoor ceremonies. The fountains and streams make the place feel so tranquil. Their name is so fitting.
Edgar and Judith were both so great to work with. They were easy going and arranged for plenty of time for the photos they wanted. There was no sense of rush or chaos, just excitement and joy. In addition to that, their wedding had two logistic features that can’t go under-appreciated! Their wedding took place all in one location and they got ready there too, so there was no need to drive from place to place, allowing more time for us to photograph the scene and the ceremony and reception spaces before guests arrived to be seated. Secondly, they chose a venue that allowed for an outdoor ceremony. I love outdoor weddings so much. Beautiful natural settings are so fun to photograph. There’s no need to unload extra gear for lighting, and having the extra room to move around without disturbing guests means we have the best angles on every part of the ceremony.
Here’s just a summary of their wonderful wedding day at Hidden Waters Event Venue:
I met Judith and Edgar before their wedding, and always thought Judith is such a beautiful girl. But there’s something about seeing a bride in her wedding hair and makeup that makes her beauty overwhelming. Cris Jenn Makeup did a lovely job creating Judith’s bridal look. She looked so elegant on her wedding day. She’s equally kind and warm, which just makes you appreciate her even more!
I lovvvvved the wreaths on the first row of chairs so much, and are you kidding me with this gorgeous garden view? Swoon-worthy.
By the time it was time for family and wedding party portraits, the forecast was predicting rain in as soon as ten minutes. Their family and friends nailed it and we knocked out all of those photos in just a few minutes. I was determined to move quickly and get as many bride and groom portraits as I could before the rain started, and luckily, it held off until well after the reception began.
OK, this group played the cutest game ever. It was kind of like musical chairs, but they had to find their partner when the music stopped.
They planned a sparkler exit, but at the end of the night, it was raining so we made do with an indoor glow stick send off. Once they made it down the aisle, Edgar picked up his bride and carried her all the way to his truck so she didn’t have to walk in the rain. *Swoon.*
I loved this wedding and Judith and Edgar, I’m so excited to share your full gallery with you soon!
